Atalanta ends 60-year trophy drought with UEFA Europa League Triumph

Lookman hat-trick stuns Bayer

Atalanta won their first major trophy in 61 years with a stunning 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final in Dublin.

Ademola Lookman's hat-trick sealed the victory for the Italian side, who have now won their first major European trophy since the 1963 Coppa Italia

Bayer Leverkusen had won their last eight games in all competitions and were seeking their first major European title since the 1988 UEFA Cup.

But they were outclassed by Atalanta, who were the better side throughout in a match played in front of 22,000 fans at the Aviva Stadium.

Lookman opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing off a fine team move with a clinical strike from the edge of the area.

He doubled Atalanta's lead in the 30th minute with a superb free-kick from 25 yards out.

And he completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute with a close-range finish from a Duvan Zapata cross.

Bayer Leverkusen never looked like getting back into the game and Atalanta held on comfortably for a famous victory.
